We are pleased to announce the new arrivals of “THAT OLD MAGIC” A|W collection on Saturday, August 3 at Center for COSMIC WONDER.

Silk wool with a beautiful arabesque pattern in jacquard weave with Tango Chirimen from the Tango Peninsula. The collection includes a dolman sleeve coat with shawl, folk pants, a shoulder bag, and a folk cap.

This glen check is a combination of merino wool, linen, and cotton.

Cotton yarns are slowly spun on an 18th century English-style spinning machine developed in the early days of the Industrial Revolution. The glen check is woven on a shuttle loom modeled on the principles of hand-weaving.  The collection includes an elegant gathered shirt and shirtdress, wrapped pants with an elastic hem, an old-fashioned large dolman sleeve dress, and a folk cap.

We look forward to your visit.

It is an activity that encompasses all thoughts, emotions and universal elements of the everyday. The project will consist of two videos re-edited for this occasion, as well as a collaboration with the artist Hanayo in the first part, and a performance by the Goto in the second part. Aki Goto

Aki Goto is a multimedia artist mainly working in video, installation and sound these days. Originally from Japan, textile art brought Goto to NYC in 2009. It was during this time that Goto worked as an artist assistant for Susan Cianciolo. It was an awakening for her of what textile art can do, and the different contexts in which it could function. Not long after, Goto relocated to upstate NY, where the natural world became an integral element in her work. It was there where her art and life finally blended as one. During the early period of 2020, Goto made the most of a Covid-era lockdown by filming her children in acutely edited short videos to share on social media and now there are over 300. Goto has exhibited her work at EUROPA, CLEARING, Nonaka Hill Gallery, Starr Suites, Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art in New Paltz NY, etc. She is exhibiting a video installation at Museum of Gaspe (CA) this July – September.

Goto also performs alongside Masami Tomihisa as Masaaki, an avant-garde pop music unit.

Hanayo

She studied in Paris while majoring in sculpture at Tamagawa University College of Arts. In 1989, soon after her return from Paris, Hanayo began training as a geisha apprentice in Mukojima. She retired from the geisha world in 1995 and moved to the UK in 1995. Currently based in Berlin and Tokyo, she has made works throughout her career as a photographer, geisha, musician, and model. Her photographs and collages capture her daily life in a dreamlike light that colors her surroundings. She has also exhibited installations, in which music and three-dimensional elements are added to her collages and photographs. She performs frequently and has participated in numerous group and international exhibitions in Japan and abroad. Her solo exhibitions include “utsushiyumekuni”, PARCO GALLERY (Tokyo, 2000); “hanayo”, Palais de Tokyo (Paris, 2002); “hanayo III” Taka Ishii Gallery Photography / Film (Tokyo, 2017). Her publications include Hanayome (Shinchosha, 1996); MAGMA (AKAAKA Art Publishing, 2008); berlin (Getsuyosha, 2013); Tenko (Case Publishing, 2016); Hanayo’s Underworld: Half a Century (Kawade Shobo Shinsha, 2021). Her music albums include wooden veil (dekorder, 2009); Gift (DHR Geist, 2000).
