“The Solar Garden” was a Cosmic Wonder clothing project that ran from 2010 until 2014. The project was developed around the concept of harmonious coexistence with nature. These quiet portraits of a woman wearing Solar Garden clothing were taken in Kyoto, between 2011 and 2012, by Anders Edström.

As of 2014, Cosmic Wonder has taken another step in its evolution by exploring ways of circumventing existing manufacturing practices with alternative methods of production. Guided by the gentle light at the root of the universe, Cosmic Wonder extends its activities deeper into the roots of life.

This book includes an essay called “In Glass” by Japan-based critic and editor Cameron Allan McKean.

Wild grapevine baskets

Nov 15, 2014 | NEWS

news-wildgrapevinebaskets

Wild grapevine baskets are entirely handmade by the skilled artisan, Yukihiko Tsutsui.

The process begins with the gathering of grapevines in the mountains in the early summer.
The grapevine fibers are carefully cleft by hand and knit together, following their natural curves.
The grapevines attain their unique amber color with the passing of time.

Center for COSMIC WONDER First Light

Weaving nature reveals the root of universe
The future and past give us their gentle light

We are heading in a new direction.
COSMIC WONDER takes another step in its evolution and explore ways of circumventing existing manufacturing practices with alternative methods of producing clothing.

In an effort to expand our awareness of our place in the natural system we focus on working with various natural materials, combining hand-woven fabrics like organic cotton and linen, wool taken from sheep that graze on land that is free of pesticides and herbicides, pure Japanese-grown silk made from silkworms organically-raised on mulberry leaves, and natural plant dyes produced with traditional Japanese techniques.
We find pleasure in making our clothes with a sustainable vision that is both old and new at the same time.
It’s a process of finding beauty in the continuity between the future and a past that we are at risk of losing.
